I found this while flicking through MSN and found this for and against about British seaside resorts out of interest I started looking then I came to this place, at some point I must go there for a holiday it looks enchanting. The blurb underneath reads:-
Rough diamond
Margate exists on a gorgeous stretch of the Kent coast, with biblical skies, stunning sunsets and a traditional beach. It has many art connections – Turner Prize nominee Tracey Emin grew up here – and a permanent Turner Contemporary gallery is planned for the town. It’s also rich in maritime history and home to a unique underground shell temple. The annual visual art festival, Margate Rocks, is making waves on the UK scene.
Rubbish resort
Margate is on the tip of Kent, dangling precariously into the sea and miles away from more civilised urbans-capes. To put it bluntly, it is full of tracksuits, greasy spoons and breakneck pubs. That Tracey Emin is from Margate is perhaps less important than knowing Tracey Emin left Margate and lives in London instead. And now, according to recent news reports, there are no donkeys there either.

If you don't like it, and don't have anything positive to contribute to fix it, then either leave or wrap it.
There is nothing to stop Margate (and Thanet) moving into the big time except the dipsticks like you who live there.
The easy part is getting folks to come here, the hard part is getting them to come back again. Pictures like the one shown give a wholly misleading impression of Margate.
I am trying to imagine, Mike, the fuss that your colleagues Iris and Clive might make if any Tory had made the above comments...
I agree the picture is bizarre, and the blurb suitably magnified, but your response, mickey take, however you describe it is crass. Imagine a similar description of your own back yard in Newington, perhaps tied in with your recent campaign of Nimbyism about Portal House School?
I think a little reflection and apology might not be amiss.
HA ha! Well said anon 19.22
So right. Bugger off if you don't like it.
Great work.
Well, that photo is real.
People like you are the reason Thanet became so depressing! Try being upbeat, it won't kill you.
