New Blogs and Nimby's

I see that there are some new blogs on the scene as we get going into 2009. First new one is Cllr Mark Nottingham’s blog containing news and views on things in Northwood, well worth a visit I think.

Secondly I see that there is a new anti everything brigade that have decided to enter the blogshpere. They are known by the appropriate acronym of SMEG. As usual they seem to think that all the ills of the world can be laid at TDC’s door, well a large percentage probably can but as usual they conveniently overlook facts in an attempt to either discredit the Council or Infratil or anyone who happens to think that just maybe a thriving Airport would be a good thing and may create much needed employment in Thanet. As with all these NIMBY groups they want to hark back to the ‘good old days’. Well Comrades lets remind ourselves about the good old days, apart from poverty, rudimentary education, poor housing, jobs paying below subsistence wages, mass unemployment we had Rickets, Scarlet Fever, Diptheria, Ringworm, Tapeworm, Polio, Tuberculosis and no state funded hospitals or medicines to treat these conditions.
Had folks with foresight back then listened to the Nimby’s and Luddites we would still be enjoying those conditions listed above.
Try telling those who are looking for work at this time that we don’t need an Airport.

Thanet still has "Mass unemployment". Because of the subsistence level of wages they are not really seeking work Mike.

Here is a tenant benefit details (man partner two children)

Child Tax Credit £90.58

Child Benefit £31.35

JSA/IS £94.95

LHA £92.17

Council Tax ben paid direct

Net house income £309.05

If he pays full rent (reluctant to do this as knows he can push matters to eight weeks arrears before landlord can get LHA paid direct so the system helps him rip the landlord off for 8 weeks rent)

he has £193.67 for gas, electric, water and shopping.

I offered him work. This with his tax credits and reduced LHA would have yielded him £449.98 household income. After rent and rates that would give about £315 for electric gas water shopping etc.

Did he choose to sign off and work ? Not on your life Mike. If he underpays his rent then he has at least £215 per week clear household income.

When the landlord has had enough he pops down the Council Housing Advice Centre and gets a public sector person to instruct the landlord how to issue a Section 21 so as to enable tenant to fast track to social housing and gain a shed load more of the landlord's money.

Planet Earth calling MIKE "They don't want the work".

I should add that this is not Thanet it is an area with 200 full time job vacancies within five miles of the address.

get em to sign off ? Not a chance.

Hello Mike. We are not nimbys, we merely want the best for Ramsgate, unlike the council.

We would like to lay claim to the previous two comments, but, unfortunately for you, there are quite a few people who see through the rubbish you spout.

If TDC were all out for jobs, it would ask Fresco for 3 more Thanet Earths instead of an airport.

It may have started out as a jobs quest 12 years ago, but now its all down to vanity.

How can a council back out from something its backed to the hilt for so long? Quite easily. We'll forgive you if you make the right decision.

If you think we have any political affiliations, red, blue, yellow, you are very much mistaken. We will support any mainstream political party who comes out against the airport - and that’s none of you at the moment.

I've put a link to your blog, just in case any of our readers need any more convincing of what a sorry bunch you are.

Mike I think the main problem is that no one so far has come up with a safe plan for operating a large airport on top of our drinking water aquifer and until they do the whole thing is a bit of a non-starter, because a major fuel spillage on the grass part of the airfield and it’s no more agriculture or Thanet Earth for us.

What SMUG think is best for Ramsgate, is what SMUG think is best for themselves.

The 2 things are not the same.

If SMUG followes don't want to live near an airport, then go somewhere where there isn't one and leave the opportunities for those of us who need them.
